What to check before compressing a document
Quality, file size, and why an estimate is not the same as a finished file.
Compression is a tradeoff. A smaller file is easier to email, and a gentler setting keeps more detail in scans and photos. Decide which one matters before you pick a level.
Look at the original size first. A 20 MB slide deck and a 400 KB letter do not need the same treatment.
Treat illustrative numbers as illustrations
Elixuvo’s PDF Compressor can show an illustrative size after you pick Balanced, High compression, or Best quality. That number is a preview ratio, not the output of a compression engine.
Download stays unavailable on purpose. There is no compressed file to save until processing is connected.
Keep a copy of the original
Even when a compressor is real, keep the source file until you have opened the result and checked the pages you care about.
