PDF to TXT

Extract text from a PDF into a plain UTF-8 .txt file. Scanned pages use OCR when Tesseract is available on the server. Processing runs on the Elixuvo API — files are not stored permanently.

How to use this tool

  1. Drag a PDF into the panel or browse for one (max 25 MB and 1000 pages).

  2. Click Convert to TXT. The file is uploaded and text is extracted in memory.

  3. Download the .txt file. Pages are separated with clear markers.

  4. Choose Convert another PDF to start over.

  5. When you need the table instead of plain text, use PDF to CSV, or rebuild a Word file with PDF to Word.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about file privacy, processing modes, formats, and device support.

No. This tool extracts readable text in page order. Columns, tables, and images are not reconstructed. Use it when you need the words, not a visual copy.
Pages with almost no text but an embedded image are treated as scans. When Tesseract OCR is installed on the API server, up to 20 of those pages are read and the text is placed in the .txt file. If OCR is not available, a scan-only PDF is rejected with a clear error. Mixed documents still convert their text pages and note skipped scans. The response only reports OCR when OCR actually ran.
Each page starts with a marker like ----- Page 1 -----. Blank or skipped scanned pages include a short note instead of inventing text.
No. Unlock the PDF first. Empty, damaged, and non-PDF files are also rejected.
No. The PDF is held in memory for the conversion request and discarded afterward. Nothing is written to durable storage.
