Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about file privacy, processing modes, formats, and device support.

PDF files rely on an index called the cross-reference (XREF) table and trailer offsets at the end of the file. If an incomplete download or crashed application truncates these offsets, standard viewers fail. Elixuvo analyzes the internal byte structure, reconstructs a brand-new XREF index, resolves orphan objects, and re-serializes clean, standard-compliant streams.
Repair success depends on the severity of the damage. If internal page streams, text, and images are physically intact, our dual-engine parser (QPDF + PyMuPDF) will successfully recover the pages. However, if crucial data streams have been overwritten with zeros or completely truncated, unrecoverable portions cannot be synthesized.
Yes. The output file is linearized and structured in strict compliance with the ISO 32000 PDF standard, ensuring full compatibility with Adobe Acrobat Reader, Google Chrome, Apple Preview, and mobile viewers.
If a PDF is encrypted with a password, the encryption dictionary must be valid to read the streams. If your file is protected and you know the password, remove protection with Unlock PDF first.
No. All repair operations run 100% in memory on our API. Once the repaired document is streamed back to your browser, it is immediately purged from memory. Nothing is ever written to disk.
