Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about file privacy, processing modes, formats, and device support.

In modern commercial music mixing, lead vocals are typically panned dead-center, meaning identical signals exist on both left and right channels, while backing instruments have stereo variance. The tool uses precise phase cancellation to subtract identical center frequencies (leaving instruments) or isolate center bandpass frequencies (leaving vocals).
Phase cancellation relies on differences between the left and right audio channels. True stereo audio allows the algorithm to distinguish between side-panned backing instruments and center-panned vocals. Mono files have identical left and right audio and cannot be separated with phase cancellation.
You can import MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, and FLAC audio files. Outputs can be downloaded in universal MP3, uncompressed WAV, or lossless FLAC format.
