Hash / Checksum Generator

Generate cryptographic checksums and hashes (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512) for text and files entirely in your browser with zero server uploads.

Live

How to use this tool

  1. Select your input method: Text Input (paste or type strings) or File Upload (drag and drop any file).

  2. Choose your target cryptographic hash algorithms: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, or SHA-512.

  3. Observe real-time hash generation with execution latency benchmarks and bit-length indicators.

  4. Toggle between lowercase and UPPERCASE hexadecimal output formats.

  5. Use individual copy buttons on any algorithm card or click 'Copy All Hashes' to copy all digests.

  6. Export a comprehensive checksum verification report (.txt) for software distribution or audit documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about file privacy, processing modes, formats, and device support.

No. All hashing operations execute 100% client-side inside your browser sandbox using the native Web Cryptography API (crypto.subtle) and RFC 1321 MD5. Your files, passwords, and sensitive strings never touch any server or external network.
A cryptographic hash function converts arbitrary data into a fixed-length string of hexadecimal characters (a digest). Even a one-character change in input completely alters the resulting hash. Hashes are essential for verifying file integrity, digital signatures, software downloads, and password verification.
MD5 produces a 128-bit hash and SHA-1 produces a 160-bit hash; both are fast and widely used for legacy file checksums and Git commits, but are considered cryptographically broken for collision resistance. SHA-256 (256-bit), SHA-384, and SHA-512 belong to the SHA-2 family and provide industry-standard cryptographic security resistant to collision attacks.
Because hashing occurs directly within your browser's memory, file processing depends on your device's available RAM. Files up to several hundred megabytes are computed in seconds without freezing the user interface.
Drag and drop your downloaded file into the File Upload tab. Find the corresponding algorithm card (e.g. SHA-256) and compare the computed hexadecimal digest with the checksum published by the software author. If they match identically, the file is authentic and uncorrupted.
No. Cryptographic hash functions are one-way mathematical functions designed to be irreversible. You cannot derive the original plaintext or file content from the hash digest alone.
