The engine uses a classic color dodge inversion technique: it converts the image to grayscale, creates an inverted duplicate, applies an edge-preserving gaussian blur to the inverted layer, and blends the layers together using the color dodge formula. Where original and blurred edges differ, the math extracts natural hand-drawn contours and pencil shading.
A smaller blur radius (2–5px) captures ultra-fine, delicate pencil lines and contours, ideal for architectural drawings and line art. A larger blur radius (10–25px) introduces broad, volumetric tonal shading similar to charcoal smudging or soft graphite pencil shading.
Yes! In addition to classic monochrome graphite, you can choose from curated sketch tones including Vintage Warm Sepia, Blueprint Cyan (architectural blueprint line art), and Charcoal Black.
The paper texture overlay blends subtle procedural fibrous grain and parchment irregularities into the sketch, giving your digital image the tactile, authentic aesthetic of a physical artist's sketchbook.
No. The color dodge pipeline runs on an offscreen HTML5 canvas at your photo's 100% native pixel dimensions, preserving razor-sharp lines and high-frequency textures.
No. 100% of the pixel luminance calculation, blur convolutions, color dodge blending, and texture generation execute in-memory inside your web browser. Your private photos never leave your device.
