How to use this tool

  1. Upload your image (JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG) or paste directly from your clipboard using Ctrl+V / Cmd+V.

  2. Select a curated halftone preset (Vintage Newspaper Print, Comic Book Pop Art, Risograph Duotone, Blueprint Technical, or High-Contrast Newsprint).

  3. Choose a geometric pattern style: Circular Dots, Diamond Patterns, Line Screen (engraving lines), Square Grid Matrix, or CMYK Rosette Screen.

  4. Adjust Dot Frequency (Cell Size from 3px to 28px) and Dot Scale to control how fine or chunky the printed raster appears.

  5. Fine-tune Dot Contrast & Radius to make dots punchier or more delicate across darks and lights.

  6. Pick a Color Mode: Monochromatic Ink on Vintage Paper, Duo-tint wash with custom swatches, or Full CMYK Separated Halftone.

  7. Toggle Aged Newsprint Paper Texture to add subtle fibrous grain and warm yellowed paper aging.

  8. Drag the Before / After split comparison slider to inspect printed dots against your original photo.

  9. Export your final halftone artwork at full native resolution as a lossless PNG or high-quality JPEG, or copy directly to clipboard.

Quick answers about file privacy, processing modes, formats, and device support.

Halftone is a reprographic printing technique that simulates continuous-tone imagery through the use of dots varying in either size, shape, or spacing. Because printing presses can only stamp solid ink or leave blank paper, halftone tricks the human eye into perceiving smooth gradients, shadows, and midtones from a distance.
Monochrome halftone converts image luminance into a single ink color (such as black newsprint ink on newsprint paper). CMYK halftone separates the image into Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black) channels, rasterizing each channel onto angled screens (such as 15°, 75°, 0°, and 45°) to create multi-color comic book rosettes without optical moiré interference.
Elixuvo processes your image entirely inside your browser tab using an HTML5 Canvas and typed pixel arrays. For every grid cell, the engine samples regional luminance or CMYK color densities, computes exact geometric dot radii, and renders crisp vector-like raster shapes into device memory with zero server uploads.
A small cell size (e.g., 4px–6px) replicates high-density magazine lithographs with fine, sharp photographic details. A larger cell size (e.g., 14px–24px) creates bold, stylized Roy Lichtenstein pop-art graphics and chunky retro newspaper print.
Yes. In Duotone mode, you can select custom hex colors for both the foreground ink (dots) and the background paper. You can also toggle the authentic aged newsprint grain texture for vintage archival paper warmth.
Yes. While the live canvas preview is optimized for smooth, responsive editing, export rendering executes directly on the native source pixel grid, outputting sharp, high-DPI dots without blurriness or compression artifacts.
