How to use this tool

  1. Upload any photo (JPG, PNG, WebP, or SVG) or paste directly from your clipboard with Ctrl+V.

  2. Choose a curated analog preset such as Fine 35mm Portra, Gritty Tri-X 400, or Cinematic CineStill 800, or customize parameters from scratch.

  3. Adjust Grain Intensity (amount) and Particle Size (Fine 35mm, Medium 120mm, or Coarse Large Format).

  4. Toggle between Classic Monochrome (silver halide) or Organic Color Noise, and adjust Luminance Weighting to protect deep shadows and specular highlights.

  5. Drag the interactive Before / After slider to preview the organic grain texture against the original image.

  6. Download your full native resolution photo as lossless PNG or high-quality JPEG, or copy directly to your clipboard.

The grain engine uses client-side procedural noise synthesis and per-pixel luminance-weighted blending on HTML5 Canvas in your browser's local memory. No image bytes or edits are ever uploaded to any cloud server.
In traditional photochemical film development, grain is naturally most visible in midtone densities while deep shadows and bright specular highlights retain less optical granularity. Luminance Weighting simulates this physical response by concentrating grain in midtones and protecting extreme shadows and highlights from looking muddy or blown out.
Monochrome noise simulates classic black & white silver-halide crystal clumps (like Kodak Tri-X or Ilford HP5), altering only pixel luminance. Color noise adds independent RGB chromatic dye fluctuations, mimicking high-ISO color negative film or vintage cinema stocks like CineStill 800T.
Fine (1px) models tight, low-ISO 35mm film stocks (e.g., Kodak Portra 160 or Fuji Pro 400H). Medium (2px) simulates 120 medium-format or pushed ISO 400 stocks with visible clump structure. Coarse (3px) creates bold, gritty retro grain characteristic of vintage archival prints, 16mm film, or high-grain artistic processing.
No. During editing, an optimized real-time preview is rendered for smooth 60fps interaction. When you click Download, the procedural grain algorithm processes your image at its original native dimensions (naturalWidth × naturalHeight) with pixel-level mathematical accuracy.
