How to use this tool

  1. Upload your primary Base Image (JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG) or paste directly from your clipboard using Ctrl+V / Cmd+V.

  2. Upload a Secondary Overlay Image (such as a forest landscape, galaxy texture, or geometric pattern), or click 'Load Sample Pair' for instant testing.

  3. Select a Blend Mode: use Screen or Lighten for dark silhouettes, Multiply for light backgrounds, or Overlay / Soft Light for cinematic texture merging.

  4. Adjust Overlay Opacity (0% to 100%) to control how strongly the secondary exposure merges into the base photo.

  5. Position and Scale the overlay by dragging directly on the canvas preview or fine-tuning the Offset X, Offset Y, Scale, and Rotation sliders.

  6. Optionally toggle Grayscale or Invert on either layer to replicate authentic black-and-white analog darkroom double exposures.

  7. Drag the Before / After split comparison slider or use the quick view buttons to inspect your blend against the unedited base photo.

  8. Export your final blended composition at full native resolution as lossless PNG or high-quality JPEG.

Double exposure is an analog film technique where a single frame of photographic film is exposed to light twice, superimposing two different images into a single artistic composite. Digital double exposure simulates this effect by combining two digital images using mathematical pixel blend modes such as Screen, Multiply, Lighten, and Overlay.
Screen and Lighten are the most popular blend modes for dark silhouette portraits. Because dark pixels in the base image have low luminance values, the bright texture pixels from the secondary exposure show through vividly inside the silhouette while leaving bright background areas unaffected.
Elixuvo processes all compositing, pixel transformations, and color math entirely within your browser's local memory using HTML5 Canvas 2D compositing and typed pixel buffers. No images or layers are ever sent to an external server or cloud service.
Yes. You can drag the overlay directly on the canvas preview, adjust its Scale from 10% to 300%, rotate it freely, and nudge its horizontal and vertical alignment offsets to frame the exposure perfectly.
Classic film double exposures often feature high-contrast black-and-white textures (such as mist-covered pine trees, starry galaxies, or skylines). The built-in Grayscale and Invert toggles let you quickly strip distracting color casts and flip contrast for clean, striking double exposures.
The export engine matches the full native source resolution of your primary base image, compositing the transformed overlay at full pixel density so there is zero loss of sharpness or detail.
