The tool accesses pixel data via HTML5 Canvas in your web browser's memory. Depending on the mode selected, it manipulates RGB color channels or translates pixels to the HSL color space in real time. No images are ever uploaded to any server.
Full Negative inverts all red, green, and blue channels (255 - value), flipping colors to their complementary opposites (e.g., blue turns to yellow). Smart Dark Mode converts pixels to HSL and inverts only the lightness channel (100 - Lightness), turning bright backgrounds into dark backgrounds while keeping original hues and color vibrancy intact.
Traditional C-41 color negative film has an orange/amber dye mask that turns muddy cyan when simply inverted. The Negative Film mode inverts the negative while subtracting the orange mask bias and balancing RGB channel curves to restore natural positive colors.
Not at all. While the live editor uses an optimized preview for instant 60fps adjustments, clicking Download runs the color inversion algorithm directly on your original native-resolution pixel data.
Yes! Smart Dark Mode is ideal for white-background PDFs, text documents, blueprints, and diagrams, converting them into comfortable dark-mode graphics without distorting colored annotations or charts.
